Designing without a safety net is what Ken Fulk does best, risking a room’s success on moves that wouldn’t be out of place on a theatrical stage or the big screen. The San Franciscan is at it again in this moody study, part of a sequence of rooms at the Kips Bay Decorator Show House in Dallas with a celestial theme. “Being an eternal optimist, I wanted to impart the feeling of a joyous reawakening after a long slumber,” says the designer, hinting at our collective annus horribilis. Fulk channels a luxurious sort of joy in a custom de Gournay wallcovering with gilded bas-relief details. The high-wire act continues with a lacquered ceiling, leopard-printed club chairs and classical-inspired sculpture on a Suë et Mare desk from Moxie Interiors. Pure Ken Fulk — no safety net.
