The interiors for Carbone Miami were inspired by Maria Callas and Frank Sinatra waking up in a suite on the Grand Canal after a night of passion. The restaurant is swathed in a decadent color palette— terracotta, cream, rich emerald greens—accents the space’s Malachite ceiling beams and columns, damask-upholstered walls, and leather- upholstered banquettes and kitchen doors. Murano sconces and chandeliers add soft, glimmering light to the bar and dining areas, and hand-drawn wallpaper guilds the bathrooms. The expansive patio space has a laid-back aesthetic, consisting of rattan ceiling fans, eclectic furniture, and lush greenery, and nods to Havana, bringing a distinct Miami flair to the Carbone experience.

Carbone Miami

Conceived as a luxury apartment in the sky, we crafted every detail of this Global Express from the exterior paint concept, to the branded identity, custom bedding and personal amenity kits. No element was overlooked; each glove-leather seat was hand stitched in Italy, the quilted leather headliner, hand-tufted bespoke carpet and exotic stone counter tops were all painstakingly sourced. In our earthbound projects the sky’s the limit when it comes to these lavish finishes, but for a jet the key is to find creative ways to make those same ultra-luxe elements be lightweight enough to take flight. The end result is a dazzling combination of comfort and sex appeal.

Global Express

Originally the home of Edgar and Lutie Perry, this 10-acre property was designed in the 1920s as a transportive oasis in the middle of Austin. The large Italianate mansion, with its formal gardens, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Perry sold the estate in 1944, declaring that the mansion was: “A great place to throw a party, but too big to live in.” As partner and creative director, Ken Fulk—in collaboration with Auberge Resorts and architect Stefanos Polyzoides—returned the property to its former glory and expanded to create a highly anticipated urban destination resort and private club, The Commodore Perry Estate.

Perhaps the biggest labor of love in my career so far is Saint Joseph’s Arts Society. About three years ago, I bought a church and embarked on a full restoration of the 1913 National Historic Landmark, Saint Joseph’s Church. For years I had passed by this grand but dilapidated old Romanesque church on 10th and Howard and when I was unexpectedly given the opportunity to help bring it back to its former glory, I felt I had no other choice but to accept. As the next steward of this incredible building, I felt it was my responsibility to infuse it with optimism, in part as an antidote to our de-sensitized and over-digitized world. We formed a subscription-based arts society and a non-profit arts foundation, and filled the building with beauty, art, culture and creativity, all designed to inspire the community and the city by extension.

Saint Joseph's Arts Society

This is the story of a Sonoma family who fought to save their namesake winery and who sadly lost their home to the California Wine Country fires of 2017. Together we worked to plan and build a new reimagined version of what was destroyed. We sourced salvaged timber and antique stone. A library was clad in the redwoods felled by the fire. Spaces were arranged to accommodate grandkids and a growing extended family. Appropriately the property garnered its name from the lone Smoke Tree that had survived the fire and stands as a reminder of the strength of family and the can-do attitude of the West.

Ken Fulk's summer residence, "Baxter's Landing" is a shingled house built around 1880, overlooking the Provincetown harbor. P-town, as it's known, is a magical destination where Fulk, Kurt, their pack of dogs as well as their nearest and dearest friends spend their happiest moments swimming, reading, and slowing down. In his own words: "It's hard to accurately capture what makes Provincetown so magical. It's a slightly ramshackle old New England fishing village stretched out like a fishhook embracing the harbor, with its back turned to the vast Province Lands and open Atlantic. It has always been an artist's colony --- attracting the likes of Eugene O'Neill, Tennessee Williams, Mark Rothko and Robert Motherwell to name but a few. That allure remains today. I know of no other spot where salty old fishermen, Boston Brahmins, drag queens, and Pulitzer Prize winners all live in close harmony. It's a place where the unconventional reigns."

Baxter's Landing

When his Silicon Valley clients asked for help personalizing their residence in Woodside, Ken Fulk created a home fit for the Modern Gaucho. The clients have a long legacy of adventures between them—he hails from Patagonia and she from Colorado, and they spent the first years of their marriage circumnavigating the globe aboard a catamaran. To transform their compound of custom timber-and-glass volumes into a stylish California homestead, the team started with a natural palette of wood, concrete, leather and glass, and set out to imbue the space with a celebration of Argentinean culture and American modernism.

Hummingbird Hill

This 100-acre working farm is tucked against the Luberon mountains in southern France. Surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, Ken Fulk repaired the 17th-century farmhouse and revitalized the grand potager, bringing the property up to date as a peaceful getaway for long family vacations. Each room in the main house, which includes the former bergerie (now a dining room), a wine cave, two kitchens, living rooms, a library and eight bedrooms, has been furnished with a transportive mix of antique and modern pieces. Additional guest quarters were added in the former barn, along with a caretaker’s studio, a modern gym and a fully outfitted hammam. Lavender-hued tennis courts, a folly-like greenhouse, and a well-equipped outdoor kitchen complete the estate.

Domaine de la Cavalière

When dear friends and clients asked if Ken would be interested in working with them to design a new custom sailing yacht the answer was a resounding yes! For inspiration we looked to the unique history of the islands, in particular the traditions of the royal Kamehameha dynasty. Halekai was an incredible adventure, working alongside the renowned naval architect Andre Hoek, the premier shipbuilding company Pendennis, and the craftsmen of Ruiter - truly a world class team.

The story of Casa Blanca unfolds when Ken Fulk’s dear friends and longtime collaborators, Trevor and Alexis Traina, decided to upgrade their cherished holiday visit to Mexico into something that could be shared throughout the year. Selecting a hillside lot tucked up against a craggy outcropping with expansive views of the Sea of Cortez, we engaged the illustrious architect Michael Imber. Rather than the modern and often anonymous houses that seemed to be sprouting up and down the coast, we dreamed of something with real charm and deep romanticism. Michael envisioned a home of distinctly human proportions built for beloved vacation rituals. Our team assembled, we set about building a storybook-like creation where lookout towers, blue grottoes, and a beachside palapa actually exist.
